Over the last year a group of local residents and organizations have been pursuing the potential for a National Urban Park in Guelph of which the hub would be the Ontario Reformatory. The Guelph Hiking Trail Club is particularly interested in this potential park because of our licence agreements for trails on the property and our ongoing interest in the repair and repurposing of the Wooden Trestle Bridge. GHTC has been part of the advisory group in support of the work of a dedicated few who have expertly laid the groundwork to the next phase which is to drive public awareness and make the proposed national urban park idea so spectacular and irresistible that politicians and civil servants alike can’t help but want to make it a reality.
Your executive committee passed a motion at their September 28 th Executive committee to give their full support to the initiative and to encourage our members to support it.
A petition has been set up on the Federal government's site and we are asking you to lend your support to the project by signing it and generally "talking up the project to friends and neighbours and politicians".
