Trail Closures and Cautions

Some GHTC trails are closed at landowner's request for hunting in the fall months.

The central section of the Speed River trail (Sideroad 10 to Rd 124) is closed to hiking as marked by red Trail Closed signs from Sept. 1, 2022 to Jan. 20, 2023. It is also closed for public hunting. It is open for hunting only to members of the Vimy Ridge Hunt Club.

Imperial Road Side Trail temporary closure from January 18 to February 12:  The new Imperial Road Side Trail runs from the foot of Imperial Road to near the former site of the Guelph Humane Society. It will be closed starting Thursday Jan 19, for one to two weeks while City arborists remove many standing dead trees. (A detour can be had by using sidewalks along Wellington Road and internal City roadways leading to the Speed River Trail.)

Please respect landowners wishes.

Last year’s local shotgun seasons for deer were Nov. 7 - 13 and Dec. 5 – 11 for muzzle loading guns and bows. We recommended you avoid hiking in the woods for those dates and otherwise to have worn bright colours during the fall months. Other townships may have different dates.

Local bow and arrow season for deer typically runs from Oct 1 - Dec 31.

Stay tuned for updated 2023 dates.
