Guelph to West Montrose on an easy rail trail, Level 2 because of its length, 12 kms, Moderate pace. Depart 9:30 from the Galaxy Theatre parking lot on Woodlawn. This hike requires us to drop off vehicles near West Montrose and drive back to the trailhead on Silvercreek, in other words, to do a car shuttle. The trail "passes through a landscape that becomes increasingly agricultural. Much of it is farmed by Mennonites, so it's not unusual to see horse-drawn buggies. A highlight is West Montrose, home to lovely stone houses, the Grand River, the Lost Acre Variety Store and, most importantly, the kissing bridge, which is Ontario's last covered bridge." Loops & Lattes Hiking Guide for Waterloo, Wellington and Guelph by Nicola Ross, 2019. Bring a picnic lunch and water. We will visit the store and the bridge at the end of the hike. This hike is Part 1 of 45 kms and we hope to complete the other 2 parts this summer.
