Find out what's at the heart of Guelph's National Urban Park proposal. This hike will take us along the Eramosa River to the old quarry and include the grounds of the 124-year-old Reformatory with its heritage designated buildings and drystone walls and ponds built by former inmates. Brief commentary along the way.
When: 9:30 am, Wednesday 4 Sept.
Where: Meet at reformatory stone gate, 785 York Rd. Park on S. side of York Rd.
Distance: 6 km (2 hrs), moderate pace
Trail description: partly asphalt but mostly dirt trails. Rough but fairly level terrain with a bit of elevated ground. Eramosa section follows steep river embankment. Some wet patches around ponds. Recommend good hiking shoes, poles, hat, bug spray, water.
