Spending Time in Nature Boosts Your Immune Defences.

An integrated medicine intervention that connected cancer patients to nature, increased their tumor-killing cell activity— along with their quality of life and spiritual wellbeing.

Increasing outdoor time for your health is so well proven, that nature is being adopted worldwide as a health intervention and in Canada, healthcare providers can even write you a prescription for it, with BC Parks Foundation’s PaRx program. Nature is becoming the fourth pillar of health —just as important for staying healthy as good nutrition, regular exercise and sleep.

Have a look: PaRx Program Resources.

Whether or not you have a PaRx Nature prescription, we can help.

Here's how:
Each week a nature walk will be posted here. The nature walks will take place on Tuesdays, with an occasional walk or hike on a weekend. Each walk/hike will be aimed at meeting goals of the PaRx program, promoting both your physical and mental health. GHTC members and non-members are all welcome to attend.
(All hikes offered by the GHTC are aimed at promoting your health. This series of hikes is aimed specifically at meeting the goals of the PaRx program.)

Our Walk February 11, 2025 - You must register online to join this walk.
We'll walk the Geo-Time Trail in Waterloo. Trailhead is at 590 Sundew Drive, Waterloo.  Total distance walked will be no greater than 5 km. The difficulty of this walk is moderate.  The trail is snow covered and probably will be packed down although there is drifting in places over the trail.  There may be icy patches.

Wear appropriate winter footwear and dress for the weather. Bring crampons, aka icers, if you have them. Bring water and snacks. No dogs please.

To carpool to the trailhead meet at the JA Pollock Family Trailway (on Shirley Drive across from BMW Grand River), in Kitchener before 9:30 AM February 11.  Look for Ron.

If not joining the carpool then please email the walk leader if you will be joining the walk at the trailhead.
