Radial Line Trail Section 5 Bear Den Loop

Start Location: 5120 Pineridge Dr. (6th Line Nassagaweya & Pineridge Dr.)
Roadside parking, please arrive: at 9:20 for 9:30 departure.
Difficulty: Level 2 (number of steep inclines; elevation gain: 230m)
Pace: Solidly Moderate 4.5 km/hour
Terrain: Some steep inclines, uneven terrain, rocks, roots, one stile (ladder to climb over fence), a bit of road walking.
The long boardwalk section is slippery if wet or icy.

Trail: Radial Line Trail Section 5 Bear Den Loop
From Pineridge we will walk north on 6th Line Nassagaweya to pick up the trailhead at the Blue Heron Scout Camp parking lot. The trail passes through woods, meadows, fields, coniferous plantations cedar and hardwood forests. We’ll enjoy hiking the Blue Springs and Sugar Shack Side Trails. We’ll then cross over a stile and walk north on 5th line to pick up the main GHTC trail again, walking on the abandoned rail bed to reach an impressive Dr. Seuss-like boardwalk, built by the Scouts and now maintained by the GHTC. We’ll follow this trail and then make our way back to 6th Line.
Required:Please wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots
and bring icers (cleats) with, ready to use as needed.
No dogs please; dress for the weather.
Recommended: hiking poles, water, snacks, hat, mits, health card,
small personal first aid kit.
