Section 5 Bear Den Loop Thursday Fast hike

This hike will be rescheduled in the event of significant rain.
Start Time: 9:30 AM - approx. 11:30 PM
Start Location: 5120 Pineridge Dr. (6th Line Nassagaweya & Pineridge Dr.)
Roadside parking, please arrive: at 9:20 for 9:30 departure.
Difficulty: Level 2; number of steep inclines (elevation gain: 230m),
uneven terrain and few short water breaks.
Pace: Brisk/fast: 5 km/hour
Terrain: Some steep inclines, uneven terrain, rocks, roots, potentially muddy, one stile(ladder to climb over fence), a bit of road walking.
The long boardwalk section can be slippery.
Length: Approximately 9 Km
From Pineridge we will walk north on 6th Line Nassagaweya to pick up the trailhead at the Blue Heron Scout Camp parking lot. The trail passes through woods, meadows, fields, coniferous plantations cedar and hardwood forests. We’ll enjoy hiking the Blue Springs and Sugar Shack Side Trails. We’ll then cross over a stile and walk north on 5th line to pick up the main GHTC trail again, walking on the abandoned rail bed to reach an impressive Dr. Seuss-like boardwalk, built by the Scouts and now maintained by the GHTC. We’ll follow this trail and then make our way back to 6th Line.
Required: Please wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, health card,
small personal first aid kit.
Insect Repellant (DEET) to deter ticks is strongly recommended.
No dogs please; dress for the weather.
Recommended: hiking poles, water, snacks, sunscreen, hat.
Optional lunch: Chompin at the Bit, Rockwood.
