Speed River Section 1 and side trails

Date: Monday, August 3, 2026 

Please meet at 6:15 for 6:30pm hike departure

Hike name: Speed River Section 1 and side trails

Hike description: We will be hiking along the Speed River trail and the lookout trails with benches with views of the Speed River. Then continue through the forest and return using the John Woods side trail 1 and the Speed River trail. 

The trail will have sections that are uneven with rocks and roots, dips, grassy/muddy areas, bridges, and gravel. 

Pace: 4 km/hr, approx.5.6 km, 1 ¼  hrs (hiking time)

Parking area is off Wellington Street, Guelph – turn into the first driveway west of the Hanlon Parkway – the driveway is almost opposite the Home Hardware. 530 Wellington Street West. Follow the driveway around until you see the hike leader – near the site of the former Guelph Humane Society. Old Humane Society

Required: hiking shoes, dress for the weather, I.D., water

Recommended: hiking poles, small first aid kit, insect/tick repellent

No dogs please.
