Hiking Speed & Terrain Rating Info

Guests are welcome on our guided hikes. Choose a hike suited to your interests and physical abilities. Be honest with yourself in judging your abilities, remembering that we tire more quickly when walking on snow/rough terrain. Consult the hike description for the hike speed, length, and difficulty of terrain (if in doubt, contact the hike leader) which are explained in the charts below.

Speed of Hike

 Slow 2 to 3 km/hr
 Moderate 3 to 4 km/hr
 Brisk/Fast 5+ km/hr

Terrain of Hike

Level 1  Well defined trails, gentle inclines. Hiking boots not required. Beginner-friendly; recommended for newcomers to club activities.

    https://w3w.co/liberal.verifiable.classes

    Length:Approximately 8 km., moderate-brisk pace

Difficulty:This is a Level 2-2+ trail due to uneven surfaces with tree roots, leaf coverage and several rocky areas.  The route may be muddy & slippery due to weather conditions.  The rocky terrain is challenging and sturdy hiking boots or shoes and confidence navigating this landscape is essential.  A good level of fitness is required.

This is an interesting route which follows the main Bruce Trail, as well as the Vanderleck, 17 Sideroad Trail, Cliff Hatch (formerly Speyside North) and Speyside South Side Trails.  The trail passes through beautiful forests and swamps and crosses a few small bridges.  Take a deep breath and enjoy the physical & mental health benefits of hiking and Nature time (“Vitamin N”)!

    Radial Line Trail Section 6

    Wednesday, September 10, 2025 –

    Level 2, moderate pace,

    9 kms, 2.5 hours.

Depart 9:30 am from the trailhead parking on Pineridge Drive, off 6th Line Nassagaweya.  For carpooling, meet at the Ethnic Market parking lot in Guelph (near Victoria Rd) at 9 am.  Please let the hike leader know if you are meeting us at the trailhead.  In the denser woods, walking over rocks and stones presents some challenges.  This section is undulating and rises steeply to “Kong Hill” with a panoramic view from the top.  We will walk in and out to Dublin Line and back.  With its varied scenery and habitat, Section 6 is one of the most interesting and attractive of the Radial Line Trail.

Bring water, wear hiking boots.  Poles will be useful.
