  Hike description:

  Home to more than 250 acres of protected forest and wetland with more than 7km of trails to explore. We will include a little yoga, if the park property is safe. Yoga mat, or experience not needed. You are invited to 'wear your green', prize for best dressed. 

  Free parking. 

  Terrain is hilly, but the trail is wide and well travelled.

  Leashed *dogs are welcome, all humans are welcome. 

  *no reactive dogs as there will be other dogs on the hike.

  Hiking shoes/boots with good tread, ICERS mandatory (just in case), dress in layers, bring water, poles optional.

  Our Walk March 18th, 2025

  Meet at the J.A. Pollock Trailway on Shirley Drive, directly across from BMW Grand River in Kitchener by 9:10 AM for a 9:15 AM carpool departure to the trailhead. Google map of carpool location.

  Trailhead is the parking lot at the Marguerite Ormston Trailway.
  Please contact the hike leader if joining the hike at the trailhead.

  To get to the trailhead from Guelph, take the 401 west to Homer Watson Drive. (Google Maps indicates that taking highway 124, then 24 to the 401 is shorter than taking the Hanlon to the 401).  Head north on Homer Watson to Doon South. Turn right into the parking lot at Marguerite Ormston Trailway.

  From the Marguerite Ormston Trailway we'll walk Grand Valley and Community Trails, hopefully to form a loop. See this hike description in self-guided hikes on this website.  If the community trails close to the Grand River are flooded, then this hike will be an out and back.

  Hike length: 6-7 Km. Terrain difficulty: 2. Pace moderate. Walking Time: 2 hours.

  On a prehike March 10 the trail was snow packed and icy in places. On March 18 the snow may be gone, but the trail may be wet and muddy with icy patches. There are a couple steep hills.

  Bring water, snacks, hiking poles. Icers are required.

  Lunch post hike at Edelweiss Tavern on Homer Watson at Manitou Drive.

  If trail conditions are poor on the day of the hike, another walk on paved trails may be offered instead.

  On March 18th, Bill Summers shares stories, photos, and lessons learned from hiking in Switzerland and the Shetland Islands.   From the Alpine heights of Soglio, one of Switzerland’s best-kept secrets to the remote Shetland Islands, Bill will share his adventures on some of the most picturesque landscapes, where rugged cliffs meet pristine beaches, and rolling hills give way to serene lochs.

  Welcome spring with this hike! We will hike along the trail system meandering through the forest and along Guelph Lake  

  Please note - spring weather is unpredictable - please be prepared for muddy, slushy, icy or snowy trails  icers/micro spikes may be needed  

  Length: approximately 1 1/2 - 2hrs -  5.8km

  Pace: moderate - approximation 4km/hr

  Guelph Hiking Trail Club is excited to host our first-ever U of G Student Hike!  We are inviting all U of G students who are curious to learn about how the Arboretum's trail network connects into Guelph's city trails!  Non-students are also welcome to join us.  Our hike will be a medium pace, 3 km/hr, spanning ~6 km in length.  There will be stairs to descend during one point of our hike.  Terrain is relatively flat.  

  1:05 PM Departure.

  Starting Point: University of Guelph, Parking Lot P15 adjacent to Gryphon Soccer Complex, near East Ring Rd & Arboretum Rd.  We will meet up here and enter the Arboretum together as a group.  Parking here is free on weekends.

  From the Arboretum, we will descend the Arboretum Side Trail onto the Cutten Fields Trail, moving west toward the Gosling Bridge.  From the Gosling Bridge, we make our way to James St, walking back up Gordon St. and through campus to complete our extended loop.  We'll take you along some paths you may not yet have discovered!

  Ending Point: Gryphon Soccer Complex, University of Guelph.

  End Time: 3:00 PM

  Hike start time: 9 AM; Meet at Covered Bridge Parking Lot near 114 Gordon Street, Guelph; Board coach bus headed for Toronto

  Hike end time: Hike takes place 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM ending at the Rogers Centre; Bus will have us home by 7 PM in Guelph following conclusion of the Toronto Blue Jays game.

  Limit number of hikers: 36 is maximum hikers allowed; Only 36 spots on the bus for hikers.

  Hike description GHTC is excited to invite you to our second annual Blue Jays Bus Hike!  This is a GHTC fundraising event that started in 2024.

  This year’s proceeds will go toward updating GHTC’s branding/website.  These valuable resources help spread word about our club to the surrounding community.  Updating these vital marketing tools for our club will help us further our mission by attracting new members/donors, improve member/donor experience, and help GHTC raise our public profile. This short-term investment will have lasting impact putting additional funds back into our community!
  

  Our goal is to raise $6,000 toward these important Club initiatives.  The Blue Jays Bus Hike is one of our 2025 events that will help us reach our goal.

  Join us for a unique experience that combines hiking with seeing the Toronto Blue Jays take on the San Francisco Giants at the newly renovated Rogers Centre!  Hikers will have two different hike-types from which to choose.  Hike # 1 drop-off location will be at the Humber Bay Bridge (15 Marine Parade Dr. Loop at Lakeshore Blvd W) in Etobicoke.  Hike # 1 is ~7.5 km in length; moving at 4 km/hour pace along Toronto’s boardwalk adjacent to the waterfront.  Hike # 2 drop-off location is the Exhibition Place Wind Turbine (Alberta Circle).  Hike # 2 is ~3.4 km in length; moving at 2 km/hour pace along Toronto’s boardwalk adjacent to the waterfront.  Both hikes offer beautiful views of Lake Ontario and Toronto’s skyline as we approach the Rogers Centre by foot.  Once at the Rogers Centre, hikers will be able to offload any gear inside of our bus and then proceed into the Rogers Centre to take in the Blue Jays game!

  • Roundtrip school bus transportation from Guelph to the Rogers Centre
    
  • One premium Blue Jay ticket to the game (Section 213 along first-base line; all seats are sun-covered)
    
  • Portion of your registration is eligible for charitable tax receipt; final amount determined by price paid and total number of spots sold.  Eligible tax receipt amount will range between 10 to 20% of purchase price.

  Registration is open to both GHTC members and non-members.  We welcome everyone who wishes to be part of our special event!

  Payments can be made by Interac E-transfer, cash, or cheque.  As this is a fundraising event, we will not accept credit card nor PayPal. Your spot is not confirmed until payment has been made in full and receipt has been issued.
